Image taken during an investigation into an epidemic of monkeypox, which took place in the Democratic Republic of Congo , from 1996 to 1997, formerly in Zaire. In the photo, French epidemiologist Dr. Philippe Malfait and Richard Peabody, from the European Training Program in Intervention Epidemiology (EPIET), held a meeting in the city of Ekanga before traveling to the surrounding villages.
